Rain + Cleethorpes = Fun!

You may doubt us, but the weather really doesn’t have to put a damper on your day or your choice of activities to do during the day for that matter!

Whether you’re visiting Cleethorpes or you’re a local, rain has always been an issue with halting plans and having to rearrange activities, unfortunately, the weather cannot be controlled, although on the plus side, you can arrange your plans around the weather, and here a few things to do when it’s raining:

1. Visit the arcades

The Mint Arcade is not only a great retreat for when the weather is a bit damp, it’s a great way to rid of all of those pennies and even re-live you childhood of wasting the day away on the machines and winning nothing but more pennies.

2. Go to the leisure centre

The logic of getting wet when you don’t want to, versus jumping into a swimming pool – a heated one at that – seems more inviting, don’t you think?
You can stay warm and have a brilliant day out at the leisure centre, where’s there’s a gym and even a squash court too.

3. Watch a film

The Parkway Cinema and Theatre isn’t just a place to watch films, the venue also hosts the regular comedy nights and shows.

4. Discover the Discovery Centre

The Discovery Centre is a great way to get your fill of culture, with some fantastic exhibitions from local artists, and most of the admittance is free!

Rain should never be an excuse to stop your plans for the day, and in Cleethorpes, there are many alternatives!

Four fun things to do in Grimsby!

The Beeches Hotel is based in Grimsby, and although it has received some poor press over the years (probably due to its name coming from the Danish word for Grim), we wanted to show everybody just how wonderful Grimsby could be!

In this blog, you’ll find our 4 favourite places to visit throughout the whole of Grimsby. What would you add to this list? Let us know in the comments below!

The People’s Park

Tucked away behind a number of houses in Bargate, you’ll find a large, scenic park that hosts a lake, playing fields and even greenhouses. Of course, we’re talking about People’s Park. You can take a ball with your kids to run around with, feed the beautiful families and ducks and swans and you can even view a host of natures favourite animals and woodland creatures living in their habitats. There’s a Gardening Centre, which is ideal for your little ones as they can visit the various animal enclosures that holds birds, chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs! Brilliantly, a number of the things to do inside the park is free, so you can have hours of fun with the family enjoying nature and appreciating the animals.

A number of exhibits sit inside the museum, offering video look backs at the history of the town and its role in Britain’s history. A host of smells, sights and sounds are to be had, bringing history to life in a fantastic manner. The museum is located just outside of the town, with a small admission fee for visitors.

Fuzzy Ed

Be situated just a 10 minute walk from the centre of the town, the Fuzzy Ed Indoor Soft Play Area offers a wonderful hour of fun for your children. Entrance is a minimal £2.50 per child, a small price to pay for what’s on offer! The massive two storey playground has ball pit, tunnels, slides, climbing equipment and even zip wires! Luckily, Fuzzy Ed run a ‘toddler time’, which allows your little ones to go in and have massive amounts of fun without the fear of being knocked over! There’s a sizeable amount of desks and chairs where the adults can sit and chat, read a magazine or two and have a cup of tea.

Bloomfest brightens Grimsby’s streets!

What’s one of your favourite sites around Grimsby in the Summer?

Ours is the fantastic array of beautiful flowers on offer every single year, flowers that give Grimsby a new lease of life with their undisputable beauty.

The 2014 Bloomfest was attended by thousands of visitors, all who came along to witness the extensive range of flowers and attractions on display for their enjoyment.

The event was organised by Grimsby In Bloom and the event was full of fun for the whole family! Singers, scarecrows and stiltwalkers all paved the way for a number of families to enjoy the festive fun!

The scarecrows may have frightened the children – and maybe even some of the adults – who attended the day, but all found a fun time in the gardens. As the scarecrows were propped up against walls and benches, they would move as passersby would walk on, giving them a considerable fright!

The scarecrows were just one of many attractions available in the fun day!

Professional gardener Nick Hamilton had this to say about the day: “The enthusiasm of people is fantastic. Bearing in mind how much money they had, they have done a superb job.”

“The flowers in containers in Deansgate Bridge on the way in are magnificent. People so often take for granted the hard work that goes in to making a place beautiful.”

Chairman of Bloomfest, Elaine Atkinson said: “The aim this year has been to bring in as many families as possible.

“The Earthbound Misfits have been excellent as ever and the whole event has made people aware of what Grimsby In Bloom is all about.”

She added: “We have already started our campaign for next year and hope more people will join in.”

The results are set to be announced around the 17th September, so be sure to check back for any updates!

An Evening With Karen And Kevin From Grimsby bought Strictly Come Dancing champion Aljaz Skorjanec, whom performed at the event in Grimsby Auditorium. Kevin Clifton and fiancée Karen were the brains behind the three-hour bonanza, putting on the show after the show Flash Mob, a show which they were both originally planned to star in had to be cancelled at the last minute.

Strictly stars stepped in and helped put together the show, with a helping hand from parents Keith and Judy Clifton. The shower performed to a packed audience in the Grimsby Auditorium, with special guest Susanna Reid joining her partner Kevin from this year’s Strictly on stage once more.

Kevin and Karen together performed a host of different dances, gaining a standing ovation from the everly impressed crowd.

Kevin said: “We were feeling pretty nervous beforehand. It’s not every day you have to put together such a massive show as this in just a couple of weeks, so we weren’t sure how we’d do. We just need to say a big thank you to all those who came and to all those who made this happen!”

Two other Strictly dancers: Aljaz Skorjanced and Janette Manrara – who perform on the show alongside Kevin –also performed on the show, bringing along more standing ovations and fabulous dance moves along the way.

A new star was also born with the appearance of Kevin’s sister Joanne, who has already signed up to perform in the next series of Strictly.

A new dancing star was born when Kevin’s sister Joanne appeared in the show. Wowing the crowd with her dance moves, Joanne revealed that she has already signed up to perform in the new series of Strictly Come Dancing. She originally retired from professional dancing in December of 2013, when she was crowned Ballroom Showdance World Champion.

Three lucky compeitiors had won places in the competition through the Grimsby Telegraph and they all performed alongside the show with three Strictly dancers. They took part in a mini Strictly-style competition that was hosted by the attending special guest Susanna Reid.

What do you think of the Strictly style of dancing in Grimsby? We’re proud to have it so close to home!
