Bloomfest brightens Grimsby’s streets!

What’s one of your favourite sites around Grimsby in the Summer?

Ours is the fantastic array of beautiful flowers on offer every single year, flowers that give Grimsby a new lease of life with their undisputable beauty.

The 2014 Bloomfest was attended by thousands of visitors, all who came along to witness the extensive range of flowers and attractions on display for their enjoyment.

The event was organised by Grimsby In Bloom and the event was full of fun for the whole family! Singers, scarecrows and stiltwalkers all paved the way for a number of families to enjoy the festive fun!

The scarecrows may have frightened the children – and maybe even some of the adults – who attended the day, but all found a fun time in the gardens. As the scarecrows were propped up against walls and benches, they would move as passersby would walk on, giving them a considerable fright!

The scarecrows were just one of many attractions available in the fun day!

Professional gardener Nick Hamilton had this to say about the day: “The enthusiasm of people is fantastic. Bearing in mind how much money they had, they have done a superb job.”

“The flowers in containers in Deansgate Bridge on the way in are magnificent. People so often take for granted the hard work that goes in to making a place beautiful.”

Chairman of Bloomfest, Elaine Atkinson said: “The aim this year has been to bring in as many families as possible.

“The Earthbound Misfits have been excellent as ever and the whole event has made people aware of what Grimsby In Bloom is all about.”

She added: “We have already started our campaign for next year and hope more people will join in.”

The results are set to be announced around the 17th September, so be sure to check back for any updates!

“Grimsby must be one of the most talented places in the world!”

An Evening With Karen And Kevin From Grimsby bought Strictly Come Dancing champion Aljaz Skorjanec, whom performed at the event in Grimsby Auditorium. Kevin Clifton and fiancée Karen were the brains behind the three-hour bonanza, putting on the show after the show Flash Mob, a show which they were both originally planned to star in had to be cancelled at the last minute.

Strictly stars stepped in and helped put together the show, with a helping hand from parents Keith and Judy Clifton. The shower performed to a packed audience in the Grimsby Auditorium, with special guest Susanna Reid joining her partner Kevin from this year’s Strictly on stage once more.

Kevin and Karen together performed a host of different dances, gaining a standing ovation from the everly impressed crowd.

Kevin said: “We were feeling pretty nervous beforehand. It’s not every day you have to put together such a massive show as this in just a couple of weeks, so we weren’t sure how we’d do. We just need to say a big thank you to all those who came and to all those who made this happen!”

Two other Strictly dancers: Aljaz Skorjanced and Janette Manrara – who perform on the show alongside Kevin –also performed on the show, bringing along more standing ovations and fabulous dance moves along the way.

A new star was also born with the appearance of Kevin’s sister Joanne, who has already signed up to perform in the next series of Strictly.

A new dancing star was born when Kevin’s sister Joanne appeared in the show. Wowing the crowd with her dance moves, Joanne revealed that she has already signed up to perform in the new series of Strictly Come Dancing. She originally retired from professional dancing in December of 2013, when she was crowned Ballroom Showdance World Champion.

Three lucky compeitiors had won places in the competition through the Grimsby Telegraph and they all performed alongside the show with three Strictly dancers. They took part in a mini Strictly-style competition that was hosted by the attending special guest Susanna Reid.
